From $15 to the Australian Dream.

After earning my engineering degree in 2017, a thirst for adventure led me to explore career possibilities beyond the Canadian Prairies. One evening, fuelled by a cold beer and a sense of curiosity, I conducted a quick Google search on 'engineering visas.' At the top of the results was the graduate skilled visa for Australia. Without hesitation, I applied, excited for this potential new chapter.

Little did I know that the visa application would be the easiest part.

Upon landing at Melbourne Airport in January 2018, I faced the most challenging situation of my life:

  • Despite applying for over 200 jobs prior to my move, I had only received one callback and interview,
  • I had signed a lease near a potential new office, confident in securing the role, and
  • I had just received a call rejecting me for the role, and I found myself with less than $15 in my bank account.

With a lease anchoring me in Melbourne and limited funds, I knew I had to take decisive action. Walking to the nearest Officeworks, I printed a stack of resumes, put my last few dollars on a bus pass, and embarked on the journey to create my Australian dream.

The Emerging Leader Podcast.

Seven years ago, I launched my engineering career in Australia and quickly encountered the full spectrum of challenges and triumphs that come with being a young professional. Throughout the highs and lows, I consistently sought out resources on leadership development, imposter syndrome, team management, and maintaining work-life balance. While I read incredible books and received guidance from talented coaches, I realised there was a need for more concise and accessible content tailored specifically for young professionals like myself.

This led me to create The Emerging Leader Podcast. Each episode features expert insights, personal stories, and practical advice, making it an essential resource for anyone from recent graduates to mid-level managers who are navigating their leadership journey.

Whether you're striving for a promotion or simply trying to manage a hectic week, this podcast is designed with you in mind.
